AYSO United Coaches Summit Speakers to Keep an Eye On
We are just one day out from the 2019 AYSO United Coaches Summit, a great two-day event where coaches and staff from all across the country can come hear speakers of diverse backgrounds present on some of the most vital sports topics. These speakers are prominent leaders in their field of expertise and we want you to get know them! Meet our 2019 AYSO United Coaches Summit special speakers.
Grant Heywood is AYSO United’s newly appointed National Director of Coaching. Grant is a USSF Coach Instructor and holds the USSF ‘A’ Coaching License.
Grant graduated from the University of Bedfordshire in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts Honors Degree in Physical Education with Qualified Teaching Status. While at the University, Grant achieved the award of University of Bedfordshire’s Sports Captain of the Year in 2010 after completing a second year of captaining the Men’s Football Team.
Shortly after graduating, Grant spent time in Ireland, Spain, Argentina and Brazil, both teaching and coaching soccer before making a more permanent move to the US at the end of 2012. Over the years Grant was Director of Coaching for Pacific Soccer Club and AYSO United Orange County.
Grant will be providing us with a breakdown of the whole coaching cycle, including a presentation on reading the game/game analysis, as well as providing small group activities on session planning.
Alex Zotinca is the U.S. Soccer Club Development Manager for the Southwest Region! Zotinca is a Major League Soccer (MLS) veteran defender who spent his seven-year professional career with Sporting Kansas City and Chivas USA. He is regarded as a KC legend for being part of the 2004 team that won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Born in Sibiu, Romania, he began his professional career with his hometown team of FC Inter Sibiu before making the big move to Romanian powerhouse Steaua Bucharest. During his time with Steaua Bucharest Zotinca played in the UEFA Cup (1999) and helped his team win the 1999 Romanian Cup.
After his playing career, Zotinca knew he wanted to stay involved with the beautiful game and began coaching local clubs in California while pursuing a kinesiology degree at Cal State Fullerton. This lead to him becoming a renowned U.S. Technical Advisor with the goal of boosting our national team’s youth talent and developing the best U.S. players.
Jose Romero is an academy coach at Celtic Football Club with 14 years of coaching experience at varying levels and of the game and age groups. A coach of Celtic Football Club for now over 10 years, Romero brings a genuine understanding and experience of every facet of a high-level academy system.
Some of his accolades include coaching recent academy graduates like Michael Johnston, Ewan Henderson, Jack Aitchison & Karamoko Dembele – who have all went on to play competitive football for Celtic’s first team and are projected to have very successful professional careers.
Over the years he has visited countless partner clubs in North America, Europe and Asia, all whilst completing his UEFA and Scottish FA accreditations. Romero brings a proven track record of fast track development for all of his players & we can’t wait to see him this weekend.
Dr. Greg Dale
Greg Dale is the Director of Sport Psychology and Leadership Program for Duke Athletics. Dale provides valuable team-building exercises for athletics teams of all backgrounds within Duke University’s esteemed athletics department.
Dale, renown for providing leadership training for athletes, coaches and administrators, is also a professor of sport psychology at Duke University. A member of the Integrative Performance Excellence Group, a unit comprised of directors in the areas of Sports Performance, Dale is on the forefront of advancing athlete performance – making him the ideal speaker for the AYSO United Coaches Summit.
